Blessed Lancelot Andrewes, Bishop
September 26th, 2006
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Ten days have elapsed since Bishop Bill's consecration at the State Convention Center. Multiple thanks go to the Volunteers and staff who labored so hard. Carol Drummond and Micki Thomas coordinated the details and Dean Vang the Liturgy. Christ the King SLC provided invaluable support. On Friday night friends, relatives, diocesan officials and visiting bishops joined together for Evensong led by Fr John Scott with a splendid sermon by Bishop Harold Miller. We were honored to welcome our Presiding Bishop and all the bishops who came for the Liturgy.
Thanks too to Vonda Cannon and her many helpers at the cathedral who put on such a splendid reception.
The next day Bishop Bill made his first visitation back to Saint Mary's, Lake Luzerne where he confirmed his first class of candidates, including son Chris. He then caught a plane to Houston for his first bishops' meeting at Camp Allen. He was one of the signatories of the letter last week distributed as a PDU Addendum. He returned last Saturday and has been enmeshed in a variety of gatherings, meetings and services. He preached an especially good sermon at the Noon Mass today at the Cathedral for the feast of Lancelot Andrewes.
The Sunday after the consecration Bp Dave was at Catskill where he reports much vitality. I did a visitation to Christ Church, Schenectady, a particular treat, bringing Bp Miller and Archdeacon McCamley who were heading out to Quebec. Late in the afternoon Bp Miller telephoned to say that the McCamley’s had forgotten their passports at Bp Bena's home. So Carol and I enjoyed a nice drive up the Northway, rendezvoused with them, drove over to Ticonderoga for supper and came home.
Last Sunday was more tranquil. Visitation at St Matthew's, Latham for Confirmation and lovely dinner. Needed folding chairs in the aisle at the 2nd Mass. Bp Dave was in Malone helping Fr Gus Calvo and the folks at St Mark's celebrate their 175th Anniversary.
Yesterday was the first Planning Meeting for Convention 2007. The theme will be TRANSFORMATION "Behold, I make all things new."
Tomorrow Bp Dave and Bp Bill and I will spend the day away combining prayer and planning.
Saturday is the Combined Leadership meeting at Christ the King, beginning with coffee at 9:30. It includes the Standing Committee, Diocesan Council, Trustees and the Deans.
Sunday Bishop Dave will be at Gloria Dei, Palenville. Bp Bill will be at Messiah, Glens Falls. I will begin a 2 month sabbatical for some prayer and study. On the following Tuesday leave for Down and Dromore where I will be speaking at the Clergy Conference, along with presenters Canon Bob Haskell and Fr Christopher Brown. During the Oct/Nov schedule events should go to Canon Jerry Carroll jcarroll@albanydiocese.org and bishop matters to Bp Dave & Bp Bill.
