Wulfstan, Bishop of Worcester
January 19th, 2005

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Even as the bitter winter winds howl down from the Artic, the fire of the gospel continues to burn. Last week Bp Dave and I participated in the House of Bishops meeting in Salt Lake City. Bp Dave got home ok, but my connecting flight from Atlanta to Albany was cancelled due to high winds, so I had an extra day of retreat in the Best Western.

On Saturday Bp Dave ordained Father Gary Strubel to the priesthood at St Paul's, Troy where Fr Jack Zimmerman preached a solid sermon. Good attendance lay and clerical.

Sunday morning Bp Dave visited Zion, Hudson Falls and reported a church filled and worship that was joy filled.

Sunday, I enjoyed a nice visitation to St. Ann's, Amsterdam with a lovely lunch after Mass with the vestry. I was particularly gratified by enthusiasm of their lay leaders involved with the Spiritual Life Center.

Sunday Bp Dave instituted the Rev'd Susan Baker-Borjeson as rector of Christ Church, Coxsackie in a vibrant service enriched by a team of musicians. Bp Dave reports that the church was filled and energized for this fresh start for Christ Church. We are delighted to welcome Mother Susan to ministry in the diocese.

I ask you to pray for the Rev'd Susan Bowman who will be having knee surgery this coming Friday.

Mission enterprises loom large. Fr Bill Love will be joining the team of Fr Mike Flynn in Uganda next month. The Rev'd Patti Hanson-Foss of Ausable Forks, and Isabel deTringo of Potsdam will be in a joint Albany-Ireland Team to the Sudan. And St Eustace, Lake Placid will be sending a team to the D.R.

All of these mission trips are self funding. You can support them by sending a gift to Fr Love at St Mary's Church, Lake Luzerne; Make the check payable to St Mary's with a memo note 'Uganda'. For St Eustace Church, 44 Main Street, Lake Placid, NY 12946, For the Sudan Mission, send to Isabel deTringo c/o Trinity Church, Fall Island, 8 Maple Street, Potsdam, NY 13676 (This latter check should be made payable "Diocese of Albany- Sudan"). You may reprint any of these in the Sunday bulletin.
